a great pre-race check up
• adjust shifting –
check cable tension, dérailleur set-up and condition, cable and housing condition.
• adjust brakes -
(v-brakes): check cable tension, caliper set-up, pad condition and alignment, cable and housing condition.
(disc brakes): check rotor condition, center caliper with rotor, examine pad wear, cable and housing condition
(for mechanical brakes): look for leaks or air in hydraulic lines.
• minor truing of wheels -
Lateral only, examine condition of rims and spokes.
• examine drive-train -
Check for wear (stretch) on chain, chain rings, and cassette.
• adjust critical bolts -
Headset, stem, crank bolts, chain ring bolts, pedals. Check for loose bottom bracket. Pivot bolts if full-suspension.
• lube chain, air up tires and you're out the door!
